Conductive adhesives

In some cases, conductive adhesives can be used to replace soldering with RFID, COB, Smart Card, polymer thick film technologies.
Henkel’s BMI-based die attach adhesives are used in component manufacturing. The heat resistance of these materials is significantly higher than the melting point of traditional lead-free solders, so they are also suitable for high-temperature applications. Conductive adhesives can be an alternative to solders if the heat resistance of the component to be connected or the circuit carrier is not sufficient for soldering. This could be, for example, a circuit printed on a polyester substrate, a bio sensor.
In solar cell production, components with different coefficients of thermal expansion are usually connected by soldering, which negatively affects the reliability of the connection in case of large temperature fluctuations. Henkel “Snap Cure” CA3556HF conductive adhesive can be a solution to the problem.
QMI 519 or QMI529HT is an indispensable material for the production of high-efficiency collimator solar cells.

Non-conductive SMD and mounting adhesives

SMD adhesives
One-component epoxy adhesives for fixing components to panels before wave soldering. Versions that can be printed or dispensed according to application. Dispensable Loctite 3621 adhesive can be stored at room temperature for up to 1 month, which is beneficial for both quality assurance and production.
Another method of applying SMD adhesives is printing. Loctite SMD adhesives can be used with metal stencils and their lower viscosity types with Pump Print stencils. They are characterized by high wet adhesion, so the parts do not move before the glue hardens, which minimizes the number of repairs after soldering.

Component securing adhesive
Certain components, e.g. high-profile electrolytic capacitors must be attached to the panel after soldering, increasing its resistance to vibration and dropping. In this case, Loctite MS polymer materials can be used in most cases. These materials are characterized by good adhesion and UV resistance.

Adhesive films

In the most critical applications (military industry, medical and automotive electronics), Henkel’s film adhesives are used widely. These materials are characterized by uniform layer thickness and low adhesive migration. A typical area of use is the connection of flexible-rigid printed circuit board, where the glue can only flow out of the bonding surfaces to a small extent. Films include electrically insulating and electrically conductive materials. The thermally conductive materials found between the electrically insulating versions can be used to attach heat sinks. These materials are available tailored to size, and when used, an even and precise layer thickness can be achieved. When using the films, we can achieve a production process free of the usual adhesive spills and tool contamination, which also significantly improves the appearance of the product. Henkel’s epoxy-based film adhesives meet the highest standards, and can even be used inside hermetic parts cases (tested and approved for outgassing by NASA).
